Enjoying this blue-grey sugar paper which shows the white pastels strongly just as much as the black:
Pastels on sugar-paper, 59x86cm.
Undoubtedly this Musing was lying in my subconscious from Thursdays urban sketching trip with the verticallity of the tenement block and then the more horizontal emphasis of the skeletal steel structure.

Hmm, nice one.
I like!
what is sugar paper, I think I would like it, perhaps as much as I like this piece! I'm enjoying your musings.
Thanks Sheila, Casey, and Sally - I'm getting great satisfaction out of these exercises in automatic drawing, it gets me going in the morning, and sometimes I come up with images that I like :o)
Sally: sugar paper is quite a course sort of craft-paper, it doesn't have a regular finish like cartridge being quite open and grainy - all the better for giving tooth to the pastels.
Oh, and it's also cheap!
