Well here I am living in my bedouin tent somewhere in the wilderness of Western Sahara smokin' my hookah and trying to find the Meaning of Life and where my rounded edges fit with the square holes I have dug for myself, raising goats and milking camels, and fending off dark eyed beauties, and when I have time a little drawing and painting to while away the weary hours between sun-up and sunset. Not a bad life and something I could become accustomed to and yet there is the call to arms and what the hell is that camel-driver doing with my brushes?
In this state of in-between I turn first to Subconscious Musings to let my inner mind have it's say and because my fragile mind can't take too much excitement:
Mixed media on paper, 60x87cm.
Automatic painting with no design thoughts just whatever arises from within (anyone got a spanner?)
Then I return to things I know best: drawing with charcoal and straightforward painting with no intentions to bend reality:
Jacqueline's New Dress 1
Charcoal on paper, 61x42cm.
Jacqueline's New Dress 2
Charcoal on paper, 61x42cm.
Jacqueline's New Dress and Coat
Charcoal on paper, 61x42cm.
This is her outfit for Harry's christening this coming Sunday.
Jacqueline's New Dress
Mixed media: Acrylics and collage on primed paper, 61x42cm.
Was that a mosquito buzzing in my ear?
She really suits this type of dress. Reminds me of her style as a young woman.

David, David, David,
You've done a great thing with your automatic painting. And, yes, I do have a spanner. In fact, I still have the sacred spanner (a 5/16th)that used to make my MG purr when I set the valves just right.
Okay, enough about me...
Please set your engine on automatic more often. Brilliant work. I'm not exaggerating. Your skill at capturing figures is wonderful, yet I see an exciting future for you as you listen to your main bearings!
I must have a spanner somewhere . . . I know I have a box of circa 1940 pipe wrenches, does that help?
Huzzah! You're back!
I am a sucker for b&w, so let me second Melinda's enthusiam for the auto painting. And I love that blue-violet that your lovely lady is robed in. Congrats on the upcoming christening (hope the water's warm enough to subvert howling. so unseemly, howling)
Huzzah! You're back!
(did I say that already?)
YOU WILL BOTH HAVE TO FORGIVE ME FOR SHOUTING BUT WE'VE BEEN HAVING A CONSTANT SANDSTORM THESE PAST FEW DAYS AND I CAN HARDLY HEAR MYSELF THINK. THE SATELITE DISH HAS BEEN DOWN FOR A WEEK AND ONLY JUST REPAIRED AND ERMINTRUDE, MY CAMEL, HAS JUST GIVEN BIRTH TO A WEE CAMELITE. THANKS TO YOU BOTH FOR COMMENTS APPRECIATIVELY RECEIVED. THE CHRISTENING WAS A BIT WET (of course) BUT THE PARTY AFTERWARDS WAS FUN. HARRY WAS SICK DOWN MY NEW NAVY SUIT AND...phew, the storms just passed over and it's all gone quiet.
Melinda, Melinda, Melinda, three times the lady!
An MG purr?...some car indeed, and that sacred spanner I think was the one I used to change the engine in my first car, a model-T Ford (not quite but I did buy this clapped-out high-bonnet Ford in 1967 for 25 quid, got it home [somehow] and immediatly had to change the engine for another 25 quid!). I'll blog later about my automatic painting, but for now just pleased you see something in it for me.
And Melanie: The things I could do with a 1940's pipe-wrench, Huzzah!!
Howling was averted by the clever organisation of mum Sharon who was ready with the bottle of milk and shawl to wrap the wee blighter in for his post feed nap! Huzzah!! (did I say that , or did you?)
Anyways I'm not quite back yet, there is still a lot of sand to trickle through my fingers and even some through my toes. Part 1 of my 40 days in the wilderness are coming to an end and Part 2 about to begin. We are off to Spain for a fortnight for me to do some swimming with fishes and to sample all the Rioja money can buy. But when I get back what delights I will have to show youse!
Sorry so slow to respond to you both but you know how it is when you are camping out in the wilderness. (well you, Melanie won't , but try to imagine)
Hasta la vista!
DAVID
